so pleased, last night I saw a plus-size tailor's dummy in the window of a charity shop on the high street. Determined to get it I ran down on my lunch break and asked the lady in the shop where it had gone, in a panic that someone had bought it.......
then a lovely old lady popped her head round from the stock room and said "its in the bin dear, health and safety rules, we had to throw it away. you're welcome to it if you want"
so we all went to the bins and fished the lovely lady out!!! (the dummy, not the charity shop lady. lol)
they said I could have it for free but I gave them a tenner as a donation. They saved me £150!!
there's no legs on the stand but I'm sure I can bodge something together.
today is a good day!!!

Today I got the costuming details for a film that I'll be doing the wardrobe for!! how exiting!!
its a short film by some of my friends called Horringer and is a zombie western!! how much fun!!!
haven't been given a massive amount of notice, the shoot is on 25th march so I'm up against it timewise but I reckon it'll all be pukka sweeeeeeeet in a week once I've got going.
really I needed about 2 months more as its my first proper costuming gig. would have liked more time to prepare but hey! there's never a "right" time to throw yourself into these things eh??
so, I'll be making most of the leading lady's outfit, 4 of the extras and sourcing the rest from wherever I can!! Due to my pink hair I can't be a zombie (historical accuracy be damned, I want to munch some brains dammmmnit!!) but I'll be on set to watch all the fun and cry when my beautiful dresses get covered in blood.
oh, and its being filmed on the same set as the Red Dwarf episode Gunmen Of The Apocalypse!! I think I'm more excited about that than anything else!! I'll be running around taking pictures of the set all day!! I get to fulfil one of my geek fantasies!! BRILLIANT!!
I'll post pics of my progress when the individual bits are done!!
I'm super excited!! weeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

wow. Just got diagnosed with Sciatica this morning :( was on kneeling on the floor pinning fabric on Friday night, got really bad pins and needles (lasted for about 20 mins which was odd to say the least) then my right leg started hurting really badly. it got progressively worse on Saturday at work, nearly fell over a few times as I was getting horrible spasms in my hip. Pain was only just bearable yesterday, went to the doc today and he tells me I need to take a week off work and do NOTHING. Gave me some very very strong painkillers. I'm getting bored already lol.
I'm getting really restless...... any time off I get I like to sew and I can't in case I do myself any further damage.... so I did a painting today instead hahahahahaaaaa Since I started doing a few more creative things last year its like I really can't stop now. If I'm better by Sunday I'll be auditioning for a band in London. I HAVE to be singing again.... Its like the floodgates have opened since I picked up a paintbrush last year..... I've never felt so fulfilled as I do right now..... money's ok, I'm learning new skills and starting to trust my abilities and believe in myself....something I've never really done properly......
This year I am determined to carry on developing the things that nurture me and make me happy..... I'm going to add more costumes to my repertoire, improve my painting and artwork skills, learn some new crafting things and get singing again.......
now all I have to do is find some new housemates so I'm not out on the bloody street in two months and everything will be peachy!!

well, today I put my first two things on ebay......just to see if they sell really.........
I only recently got back into crafting and making things again....been occupied with other, useless things.
when I was a kid me and my sister used to visit my grandma and grandad (rest their souls). to keep us occupied (and to distract us from fighting) grandma used to get out the craft bags and spread out her collection of fabrics, loose bobbly eyes, pipe cleaners, glue, tissue papers, glitter, wool, paper to draw on and anything else she had lying around the house.......... i can't remember making anything in-particular but.... i have half-remembered memories of a teddy bear that grandma cut out the the pattern pieces and me clumsily sewing it together.......stuffing it with rags........... I remember her battery-operated scissors..... some relic from the 70's that shredded more times than they actually cut..... I took apart a necklace and sewed some bits of it to a bum-bag (yes, i grew up in the late 80's/early 90's and salt n pepa were all the rage). my grandma taught my sister how to knit....she ended up broom-handle knitting a scarf at one point as i remember.......
At my grandma's funeral the vicar put in his speech how grandma loved to be surrounded by children making things...... its something she carried on doing with my mum's friend's children after me and my sister lost interest.... she never cared how much mess we made, as long as we were being creative and not watching the t.v, grandma was happy and always there to help out with our fumbled stitches or wonky glued on eyes...(on the creatures we made, not OUR wonky glued on eyes....that would be hideous .... lol)
well...after many many many years, my interest in crafting came back. Now I have not so much time on my hands but my hands are much better equipped to craft things....... and thanks to grandma, and my wonderful mum, I'm starting out again with a rudimentary knowledge that I'm adding to every time I start a new project. Thanks to the incredible women in my family I can see how things are made, figure out how to do things and think on my feet when a problem arises. I'll thank my mum when I next see her for helping me make that dress I was so proud of when I was 13.
I might not be very good yet, but I'm trying and learning and gaining knowledge!! and having fun!!
